This was a short story project for my Fourth Year Japanese: Literature class. We had to write our own short story based on one we read in class by Yoko Ogawa. (缶入りドロップ／海) カタカタのおじいさん  カタカタと缶鳴らすおじいさんがまた来た。おじいさんはカウンターに缶 入りドロップを抱えて来てカタンと置いた。 「あれ？また、５缶ですね」 とコンビニでバイトしている女の子が言った。 「まあ、しょうがないよね、ナナちゃん」 おじいさんは彼女に言った。 「近所の子供達の間で有名になったね。魔法使いだって」 こ れは葡萄のドロップをあげた男の子のお陰だ。おじいさんはいつも子供が望むドロップをあげたから、近所の子供達にこのニューズが急に広まって、色々なニッ クネームをもらった。子供達にとって、魔法使いのおじいちゃんだ。ドロップを買わなくてはいけなくなったら、いつも通り買いに来るこの人をコンビニのナナ ちゃんには、カタカタのおじいさんと呼ぶ。毎週コンビニへ来るようにになった。それで、ナナちゃんはおじいさんとだんだん仲良くなったいった。カタカタと 聞いたら、すぐおじいさんが来たことにがわかった。 「じゃあ、また今度ね。」 「あっ忘れないでね！傘」 ナナちゃんは言った。 「ああ、ありがとう。最近曇り空が多いね。」 「でも雨は全然降らないね。」 数日後、ナナちゃんが片付けている時、カタカタカタンという音が聞こえたので 「しょうしょうお待ち下さーい！」 と言って、カウンターに戻った。でも、周りを見ても、おじいさんはいなかった。 「えっ 気のせいかな。」 [...]
